Variant Alternative Income Fund
The Variant Alternative Income Fund is structured as a closed-end interval fund designed to connect investors with a diversified portfolio of unconventional, income-generating assets. By intentionally targeting niche market opportunities, the Fund seeks out investments characterized by robust, predictable cash flows and a distinctly low correlation to traditional public equity and fixed-income markets. This strategic focus acts as a portfolio diversifier and allows the Fund to pursue its primary objective—delivering a consistently high level of current income—while treating capital appreciation as a supplementary goal. Variant’s investment team leverages decades of specialized experience to identify and capitalize on these niche markets, which are often overlooked by broader financial institutions or inaccessible through standard investment vehicles.
To deliver this specialized exposure without the severe, multi-year lock-up periods typical of private alternative funds, Variant utilizes the interval fund structure. This framework enables the Fund to invest in less liquid assets, thereby capturing the “illiquidity premium” to generate potentially higher yields. At the same time, it provides investors with a highly functional operational experience, including daily pricing visibility and simplified 1099 tax reporting (bypassing the often complex K-1 tax forms associated with private partnerships). To balance the underlying illiquidity of its assets with investor needs, the Fund offers controlled, periodic liquidity through quarterly repurchase windows, typically gating redemptions at 5% to 25% of its net asset value (NAV).
